Kajiado East Member of Parliament, Kakuta Maimai, has disbursed bursaries worth Sh26 Million.
Speaking during the disbursement at Kitengela, the MP said that education is the greatest equaliser, and he will continue to ensure that no child is left behind in terms of education due to financial constraints.
“The bursary has been distributed to all five wards in the constituency, with secondary school beneficiaries receiving Sh1.8 million, colleges receiving Sh450,000 and tertiary recipients receiving Sh750,000,” said Maimai.
Additionally, he urged parents not to buy bursary application forms from anyone, as they are given out free of charge and cautioned that anyone attempting to sell the forms will face the law.
The MP has urged the Ministry of Education to promptly send school capitation to schools to prevent any disruptions to students’ studies.
“It is unfortunate that capitation has been delayed, and when it comes, it only covers a few students. I want to urge the Ministry of Education to send the capitation to schools on time to avoid disruptions, especially now when the school calendar is coming to an end,” he said.
For instance, Miriam Syombua, a parent to one of the beneficiaries, appreciated the legislator for the bursaries, saying that they will ease the school fees burden.
Lastly, Jotham Oparanya, representing the Kitengela Boda Boda association, expressed gratitude for the bursaries and urged the MP to increase the allocation due to rising living costs.
