Bunge La Mwananchi-Migori Branch has urged the county’s political class to tone down their rhetoric and reduce the political hooliganism being experienced in various parts of Migori.
Speaking to the press at one of the hotels in Migori Town, the area Bunge La Mwananchi Chairperson Charles Osewe condemned the violence experienced a fortnight ago in Nyatike constituency when supporters of Macalder-Kanyarwanda Member of County Assembly (MCA) Felix Okwanyo clashed with supporters of Nyatike Member of Parliament (MP) Tom Odege during a church fundraiser.
Osewe said that the 2027 general elections are still far and it was important for the political class to implement their manifestos to justify their reelection bid.
“We cannot be engaging in politics of division, yet we are the same people from the same county,” lamented Osewe.
He called upon the political class to demonstrate good leadership skills, political tolerance, and champion peace and unity, while working for the people of Migori.
Recently, the county has also witnessed wrangles between two factions fighting for the position of Uriri Constituency Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Party Chairperson’s seat, each group claiming to have the backing of two different politicians within the county.
Osewe called upon the residents of the county to restrain themselves from being used by the political class to score their political differences.
Migori Bunge La Mwananchi, Secretary General, Timon Omiti, said that it was time for the county residents to understand that politics is no means to an end.
Omiti also urged the area residents to desist from being misused by political leaders’ every time elections are round the corner.
He affirmed that they will be watchdogs of the political space in the county and report any form of political violence to the ODM party disciplinary organs and security agencies.
