Migori County will today honour the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga with a memorial to be held at Awendo Green Stadium in Awendo Sub County-Migori.
The event will bring together residents of the county who did not get a chance to eulogise Raila during his burial at his home in Bondo-Siaya County.
Speaking at his residence, Migori Governor Ochilo Ayacko said that since the burial of Raila was done within 72 hrs, many people, especially from the Southern Nyanza, did not get a chance to mourn him.
“It is for this reason that as a county and friends of Raila, we thought it wise to host his memorial,” he said.
He urged the county residents to attend the function that would be public with no restrictions on attendance.
“This event is an opportunity for the people of Migori County to come together and celebrate Raila’s life and legacy. He was a leader who touched many lives, and it is fitting that the community gathers to honour his memory,” he said.
He said that the event would be a celebration of Raila’s life, and an opportunity for the community to heal and come together in solidarity.
Governor Ochilo outlined that the event would be fully financed by the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Party and friends of Raila, ruling out the rumours of the county spending on the memorial.
