Molo MP slams opposition over Kenya-US health deal

Molo Member of Parliament (MP), Kimani Kuria, has lauded President William Ruto for signing the multibillion health pact with the American government, noting that the agreement will tremendously boost the health sector in the country.

Speaking during the Jamhuri Day celebration at the Molo Stadium, Kuria urged the opposition to be objective when criticizing the government, even as he urged them to shun misleading cheap propaganda to the public.

“Kenya signed a historic five-year health agreement with the US, the first such pact since Donald Trump’s administration overhauled its foreign aid programme. This is a great milestone to our health sector as a country,” noted Legislator Kuria.

The $2.5bn (£1.9bn) deal is aimed at combating infectious diseases in Kenya, with similar agreements expected to be rolled-out in other African countries aligned with Trump’s broader foreign policy goals.

The Government-to-Government agreement aims to boost transparency and accountability, but has raised fears, it could give the US real-time access to critical health databases, including sensitive patient information.

He warned those with court cases to rethink, noting that it will derail development in the health sector

Kuria warned those spreading lies that health data had been shared with the US government, terming it propaganda that are baseless and not of good to any Kenyan.

“As leaders we must refrain from deceiving Kenyans for political mileage. No health data was shared; instead, this was a pure health deal to bolster our health sector,” he added.

“We must be objective whether you are in government or opposition. I will defend what is meant for the betterment of the nation,” legislator vowed.

The MP noted that the residents of Molo, Kuresoi North, Kuresoi North and neighbouring sub-counties will now get land registry services at the Molo Land Registry Offices in an effort to address the huge number of residents without title deeds.

“I have fought hard to ensure Molo Sub-county get land registry office. Most of our resident had to spend over sh.1000 to access those services at Nakuru, a move which had left majority without title deeds,” he added.

Kuria noted that lack of title deeds has denied the residents to secure even loans or invest freely for fear of being disposed of anytime.

“Our people could not even secure a loan or invest in their land for fear that they had no title deeds. That is why I have fought hard, to ensure over 60 percent of Molo residents who don’t have title deeds secure them,” Kuria said.

The Legislator said by next year Molo town will be a complex  Sub-county  with almost all government services offered to residents at one central point. This comes with Molo Hunduma Center, which is ready for commissioning with 95 percent complete.

The sentiment was echoed by Molo DCC, Jackson Olechtuta, saying lack of title deeds has been the main cause of conflicts in the area and the coming of the Lands Office, will play vital role in peace and harmony of the residents.

“Most conflicts we address as an Administrators are land related. That is why I must thank the MP for having thought of championing to have land offices and a Huduma Center here in Molo,” said DCC Olechuta.
