Mombasa ACK Church hosts International Hymn Festival

Mombasa Memorial Cathedral hosted the 2025 International Hymn Festival, drawing approximately 4,000 attendees from the Anglican Church of Kenya Diocese of Mombasa (ACK).

Choir groups from Uganda, South Sudan, and Tanzania participated with Kenyan congregations to celebrate music, faith, and Christianity growth whereas, clusters of voices in the Cathedral’s main hall highlighted the Church’s growth across generations through songs, fellowship, and shared worship.

The festival highlighted the role of music in nurturing young talents and attracted visitors from East Africa. Besides it linked the church’s mission to regional tourism potential. Besides, it also gathered both youth and adults, showcasing diverse cultures and traditions.

Meanwhile, the presence of guests from Uganda, South Sudan and Tanzania helped make the festival not only a religious celebration but also a regional cultural exchange, as such gatherings build bridges between churches across borders, encourage talent among young worshippers, and enhance the visibility of Mombasa as a venue for spiritual and cultural tourism.

The youth from East Africa showcased their talents, as festival organisers highlighted the event’s role in fostering youth leadership.

Choir directors noted that participation in such performances instills discipline, confidence, and provides a prominent platform for the church to spread the gospel.

Mombasa Deputy Governor Francis Thoya congratulated the Diocese and all participating choirs noting that music and faith are powerful engines of community growth.

“Through these voices lifted high, we see a church that not only honours tradition but invests in our children’s future. And by inviting brothers and sisters from Uganda, South Sudan and Tanzania, we are also showing that Mombasa can serve as a gateway for spiritual visitors and cultural travellers,” he said.

Alphonce Mwaro Baya, Bishop of the ACK Diocese of Mombasa, said the festival is an avenue to nurture the youth. “We believe the gospel must pass from generation to generation, and music is one of its most beautiful vessels. When a young person stands to sing, we are raising future leaders in the Church and in society,” stated Bishop Mwero.

He added, “and when people come here to worship and listen, they also discover the beauty of the Coast and Mombasa’s role in God’s mission.”
