A patient has been diagnosed with Mpox virus in Homa Bay County Referral Hospital.
The male patient was admitted to the hospital presenting symptoms of a skin rash and other symptoms associated with the viral disease.
Homa Bay County Chief Officer for Health Dr. Kevin Osuri said that the patient has been taken into isolation.
He said an itchy rash initially affected the patient’s face and later spread to the head, limbs and groin.
Dr Osuri added that the patient arrived at the facility on referral from Makongeni Sub-County Hospital.
The patient, who is a resident of Rachuonyo West Sub-County, has no history of travelling outside the country.
However, he recently relocated from Kisii Town to live with his brother in Homa Bay Town.
Dr Osuri said they were managing the disease well. “The patient is in the hospital and we are managing the disease. He is responding well to medication,” Osuri said.
He said they were also undertaking contact tracing to prevent further spread of the disease and urged residents to take precautionary measures against its spread.
