Members of Parliament have pledged their support for the National Digital Transformation Agenda, announcing plans to establish at least one digital hub in every ward across the country.
The initiative, totalling 1,450 hubs, aims to accelerate innovation, entrepreneurship, youth empowerment and job creation in line with the government’s digital superhighway vision.
Speaking during the Kenya Software and AI Summit 2025 at Moi University Annex Campus in Eldoret, Uasin Gishu County, Turbo MP Janet Sitienei said the digital hubs will serve as “new engines of opportunity and creativity,” helping to unlock the potential of Kenya’s young innovators and position the nation as a global technology player.
“As Members of Parliament, we are fully committed to supporting the National Digital Transformation Agenda under the visionary leadership of President Dr William Samoei Ruto,” she said. “These hubs will create spaces for innovation, software development, digital training, and entrepreneurship across Kenya and beyond.”
Sitienei commended the Ministry of ICT and the Digital Economy, the African Telecommunication Union and other partners for championing digital growth through collaborative platforms like the Software and AI Summit.
She emphasised that the programme aligns with the Kenya Digital Master Plan, which envisions a connected, inclusive and technology-driven economy.
The Turbo legislator further noted that Uasin Gishu, known as the “County of Champions”, is ready to play a leading role in nurturing digital skills and supporting innovation hubs that empower youth to turn ideas into transformative businesses.
“With the right support, Kenya’s youthful talents can build thriving software export industries, just as our athletes have conquered global athletics,” she said.
Sitienei proposed the creation of a youth-led taskforce to spearhead annual technology exhibitions, pilot local innovations and connect developers and startups with potential investors and partners.
She also urged continued investment in digital education, mentorship and university-based technology centres to develop export-ready products and strengthen Kenya’s position as an emerging tech hub.
“This is the way to go,” she said. “AI and ICT will help our youth create jobs, become self-reliant, and take Kenya to new heights of innovation.”
