Mt Kenya West Region TVET ball games held in Nyahururu Stadium

Michuki National Polytechnic of Murang’a County and Mukuweini Technical Training Institute of Nyeri County are the ladies and men volleyball champions respectively, from Mt Kenya West Region Technical Training Institutions after easily beating opponents in the finals played at the Nyahururu stadium Saturday.

The Michuki Queens defeated Nyeri National Polytechnic 3-0 in sets of 25-14, 25-18 and 25-21 in a tough final of the Season Two ball games organised by Mt. Kenya West region of the Kenya Association of Technical Training Institutes (KATTI).

Michuki coach Victor Koech praised his women’s team for the win and promised to up their training, ahead of the national competition set for Mombasa from October 29 to November 2nd.

“We have to train in readiness for the tough (humid) environment we are going to enter there (in Mombasa),” noted Koech.

During the semifinals, Michuki ladies volley team had beaten Tetu Technical and Vocational College 3-0 (25-10, 25 20 and 25 18) while defending champions, Murang’a Technical Training Institute (TTI) women volleyball team lost 3-0 sets of 25-15, 25-20 and 25-21 to Nyeri National Polytechnic in the other ladies’ semifinal.

Tetu TTI women volleyball team thrashed the defeated champions, Murang’a TTI women volleyball team after beating them 3-0 in the playoff in the contest for third and fourth positions.

In the final game witnessed by a large crowd of spectators, what clearly looked like poor teamwork cost Nyeri National Polytechnic men’s title that they won last year after they were whipped 3-0 by Mukurwe-ini TTI men volley ball team sets of 25-20, 25-18 and 25-21

In the men’s volleyball semifinal, Tetu TTI lost to Nyeri National Polytechnic 3-0 while hosts Nyandarua National Polytechnic lost to Mukurwueni TTI 3-0. Nyandarua National Polytechnic lost 2-1 to Tetu TTI in the playoff.

The KATTI ball games had drawn 26 TVET institutions from Mt. Kenya West Region counties namely Nyandarua, Murang’a, Nyeri, Laikipia and Kirinyaga

The winners and first runners-up will proceed for national KATTI games in Mombasa from October 29th  to November 2nd.
