Mwendaandu boys edge out Oljoorok to represent Nyandarua at regionals

Mwendaandu Secondary School emerged the winner in boy’s football after beating Oljoorok Secondary 2-0 in a tough game which saw Oljoorok take second position in matches held at Nyahururu Stadium to select teams to represent Nyandarua County at the regional level.

In the semifinals Mwendaandu Secondary had beaten Kahuho Secondary 2-0 while Oljoorok had defeated Ngorika 3-0, leading to a meeting of the winning teams for the final match where Mwendaandu won.

In the search of third and fourth place in boy’s football, Ngorika Secondary faced Kahuho Boys where Kahuho took third position after beating Ngorika Secondary 4-3 through penalties after they drew 1-1.

Ruiru Girls took the lead in girl’s football after defeating Ngorika Secondary 2-0 in the final match while Ngorika settled for second position.

In the semifinals, Ngorika had beat Mwendaandu Secondary 2-0 while Ruiru defeated Ndaragwa Girls 6-0.

Third position in girl’s football was taken by Mwendaandu Secondary after beating Ndaragwa Girls 2-0; Ndaragwa took fourth position.

In the boys’ volley ball, Kambaa Secondary took the lead after overpowering Muruaki Boys 3 sets-0 while Karima Girls defeated Ngaindeithi Secondary in girls volley ball 3 sets-0.

As a result, Kambaa Secondary and Karima Secondary will represent Nyandarua County in volley ball in the regional tourney.

Secretary, Nyandarua Secondary Schools Sports Association, Mr. Joseph Kamathi said participants at the county level were drawn from the three zonal levels in Nyandarua County which are; zone A comprising of Nyandarua South Sub County, Kipipiri and Kinangop Sub counties.

He added that zone B comprised of Mirangine, Nyandarua Central land Wanjohi Sub counties while zone C comprise Nyandarua North, Nyandarua West, Aberdare and Gathanji Sub Counties.

Mr. Kamathi further noted that the winner in every category who will proceed to regional level will compete with winners from other counties in the Central Region.

“However, defending champions in each category are allowed to present two teams so as to make up six teams, for instance Kiambu County is the defending champion in football hence will present two football teams at the regional level,” added Kamathi.

He pointed out that the regional ball games will be held on July 11th and 12th next month where winners from counties in Central region namely Kiambu, Kirinyaga, Nyeri, Nyandarua and Muranga Counties will converge at Nyahururu Stadium.
