Nairobi United suffer defeat in CAF opening matches

The Nairobi United FC was among the first teams to suffer humiliation during their opening matches at the Council for East and Central Africa Football Associations (CECAFA) tournament.

Also beaten in their maiden matches were Azam FC and Singida Black Stars FC who got off on the wrong foot in their group stages during the ongoing 2025/2026 Total Energies CAF Confederation Cup championship.

Last Sunday, the ten-man Nairobi United FC team were thrashed three goals to nothing after losing the match to Wydad AC in their first-ever CAF Confederation Cup group stage game at the Mohammed V Stadium in Casablanca.

Nairobi United FC got off to a tough start, conceding inside three minutes when Ayoub Boucheta found the back of the net while Mohamed Bouchouari gave the Moroccan side a 2-0 first-half lead. Mohamed Rayhi added the third goal in the second half.

The team now shift focus to their next assignment, where they will host DR Congo’s AS Maniema Union at Moi International Kasarani Stadium on Sunday 30 an opportunity to respond and keep their continental campaign alive.

The reigning CECAFA Kagame Cup champions Singida Black Stars FC suffered a 2-0 away defeat to CR Belouizdad in Algeria on Saturday.

Abdennoriheb Belhocini and Abdelraouf Benguit scored for the home side at the Nelson Mandela Stadium in Algiers. Singida Black Stars FC tried to push forward but failed to find goals.

On Sunday another Tanzanian side Azam FC suffered a 2-0 defeat to Maniena Union at the Martyrs Stadium in Kinshasa. Balako Christian Panzi and Christopher Pindi netted for the DR Congo side.

Action for the CECAFA teams returns this weekend with Azam FC hosting Wydad AC on November 28th at the New Amaan Complex, while Singida Black Stars FC hosts AS Otoho, and Nairobi United hosts Maniema Union the next day.
