The National Trade Development Bill 2025 could become a law within the next four months, following conclusion of public participation hearings across the country.
Addressing the press during closure of the exercise at the Kisii Agricultural Training Centre on the outskirts of Kisii town yesterday, Chief State Counsel in the Ministry of Investments, Trade and Industry, Robert Kungu said views of the stakeholders had been adequately captured, as per the requirements of the Constitution 2010.
Kungu noted that the next few days would be utilised to collate the views from various counties before the same is transmitted to the national assembly for enactment, which is expected to take place within a four-month time frame.
He cited various reasons for drafting the bill including the harmonisation of licences, levies and other charges that are administered across counties to enable traders to move their goods across the devolved entities without paying multiple fees.
Kungu assured that the bill would be redrafted to capture the views raised during the public hearings before it is submitted to the Cabinet, before finally being presented to parliament for enactment into law.
Others present at the function included Kisii County Trade and Marketing Chief Officer Dr. Isaiah Onsarigo and Trade Development Officer Faith Rotich among others.
