Ndia residents have unanimously backed the retention of the National Government Development Constituency fund (NG-CDF) to facilitate development in villages.
Residents led by Ndia member of parliament Hon. George Kariuki told officials from the National Assembly Secretariat during a public participation session in Kirinyaga County that the funds was a game changer since its inception.
The legislator who advocated for the entrenchment of the kitty in the constitution emphasized its crucial role in supporting education for students from vulnerable backgrounds across his constituency and all over Kenya.
Kariuki said that the fund has been a milestone for the growth of many constituencies, saying it has made the lives of many National Government Administration officers (NGAO) decent working environments unlike before.
When you go around, you will witness NG-CDF projects across the constituency. We have built school places where there were no schools that bring education closer to the public. We have also reconstructed schools which were in a bad state to the modern standards, thus giving our learners a good learning environment, and all this is brought by the presence of the NG-CDF,” said Kariuki.
Kariuki how spoke during a public participation held in St, Philips Baricho day school urged the members of the public to make an informed decision to ensure the education of their children in future is guaranteed adding that once the bill is passed to be a law in the constitution no one can amend it without their approval.
He also called on those politicians and the ones going to courts to have NG-CDF disbanded to stop misleading the public adding that nowhere the MP signs the bursary cheques neither does he benefit from it personally stating that the work of the MP is only to oversight.
The legislator who also issued a bursary cheque of 60 million said it’s an increase from last year, which was Sh52 million, which will benefit eight thousand students across the constituency in secondary and tertiary institutions and children living with disability, calling upon teachers to give their best to the learners saying educated community makes informed decisions.
He said the bursary and NG-CDF fund has also created employment for our youth at the village who undertake the project hence facilitate economic growth in the constituency.
Hon. Kariuki said before the inception of the fund; poor parents were compelled to raise funds from their pockets to finance development projects in their schools further burdening their expenses on education of their children.
Speakers at the for a further agitated for an increase on the amount allocated and urged parliament to facilitate the enactment the kitty into the law for posterity.
