The new Amalo Sub County in Narok County has come as a big relief to residents of Mulot, Sagamian, Sogoo and Ilmotiok wards who had to travel long distances to access government services.
The residents confessed that the creation of the sub county has eased the delivery of services and created room for employment as more locals are employed in government offices.
Chemtai Molel, a resident of Ilmotiok ward, recalled how she had to travel to Lamek town, which is about 100 kilometers from her home to apply for her national identity card.
“It was too costly to access government services like applying for a birth certificate, participating in military and police recruitment exercises among others. We are lucky that the services are now close to our homes,” she said.
Speaking when he toured Sogoo sub county hospital to access the ongoing expansion of the hospital, Narok Governor Patrick Ntutu lauded the Kenya Kwanza Bottom-up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA) saying the creation of the new sub county would empower the less fortunate people in the society as they would be able to access the government easily.
Ntutu stated that the Kenya Defense Forces (KDF) was deployed to do technical work in the hospital construction, while the locals were hired to do casual work.
He underscored the numerous benefits that come with the creation of a new sub county among them fair recruitment in government jobs both at the county and national level.
“We are in the process of recruiting village administrators, rangers, health officials and ECDE teachers. The recruitment will be done as per the sub counties hence you will benefit more because there will be lesser competition,” said governor Ntutu.
The county boss however warned the young generation against spending their time doing unproductive jobs like smoking, betting and drug abuse, warning that such behavior could weaken their bodies and they could easily lose in job recruitment.
“Police recruitment requires one to be physically fit. If you consume drugs and engage in unproductive business, it may weaken your body and you fail to pass the test of a police officer. I urge all young people to watch their health so that they can qualify to get the many available government jobs,” he advised.
Amalo Sub County borders the Maasai Mau forest with the headquarters being at Sogoo trading center. The new sub county was hived from the larger Narok South and Narok West sub counties.
