New Turi police station boosts security in Molo

Residents of Turi Ward in Molo Sub- County, Nakuru County, now have a reason to smile following the opening of a new police station and the deployment of an Officer Commanding Station (OCS) to operationalize it. The move is part of a broader initiative to strengthen security across the sub-county.

Speaking during the launch, Molo Area Commander (ACC) Geoffrey Chetivia and Elburgon counterpart Maurine Ondigo urged residents to cooperate with the new officers to combat crime, including the rising cases of drug abuse and illicit brews in the area.

“The security begins with me as a resident. We must cooperate with our security agencies by providing timely information so that we can weed out criminals from their usual hideouts,” said ACC Chetivia.

ACC Ondigo emphasized that the new station will help tackle drug trafficking, which has been a major concern affecting local youth. “With these fully operational police station, we want to completely deal with the drug menace which has been the biggest nightmare for many youths. Some are rendered irrelevant at a tender age because of drugs,” she said.

Molo OCPD Justus Katana echoed the sentiment, calling on residents to support the police in enhancing security. “We’ve brought these police stations closer to the grassroots to ensure the safety and security of our residents. The new station will help us tackle rampant crime and provide a more effective response. It makes no sense to have only one police station serving a sub-county with around 400,000 people,” he said.

“Work with us so that Turi will be remembered as secure and peaceful, not a place of sorrow or fear,” he added.

Residents welcomed the deployment of officers, noting that closer proximity of security services will improve safety, particularly for school-going children and women. Njogu Emilio remarked, “We hope that with these new police station, security will improve, especially for kids and women who face dangers when darkness falls.”

Local business owner and farmer Thomas Mose Kamau expressed optimism that increased security will encourage business growth and attract investors to Turi Ward.

Residents also called on area MP Kimani Kuria to ensure the station has adequate infrastructure, including houses, modern offices, and vehicles to support the operational capacity of deployed officers.
