Nyandarua Health executive, Juliana Syoweu Tsinanga, has pointed out that from now henceforth nurses’ input will be a requirement for design of all new health facilities to be constructed in the County.
Tsinanga said that owing to the fact that nurses spend most of their working hours in the facilities are better placed to know how big rooms and doors should be and where sinks should be put.
“We believe nurses together with doctors and allied professionals must great role to play in how health services are designed, managed and delivered,” said the executive.
The Health Executive was speaking during the launch of the County International Nurses Week celebrations at the Ol Joroorok ACK church compound.
Furthermore, Tsinanga noted that since she came into office, she has given first priority to nursing agenda including addressing workforce shortage and improving their working conditions.
“I believe nurses and midwives play vital role in ensuring healthier communities and stronger systems,” added Tsinanga.
She pointed out a total of 64 nurses have been recruited since last year; 30 new nurses this year and 34 were recruited last year to improve nurse-patient ratio and strengthen health services in the County.
The official observed her department was working hard to promote nurses who have stagnated in the same job group for many years.
“In 2024 we promoted 100 nurses and we are promoting more this year. Just conform to the requirement criteria when applying for promotion. It is demotivating when you see your colleague being promoted and you were together in school,” she said
She reiterated that the 465 nurses serving in Nyandarua to be a huge resource in the county’s effort to promote healthy lives and strengthen the economy.
The Chief Officer in the department, Julius Ng’ambi, said all applications for promotion have been processed and he expects the board to start issuing letters any time adding that health department workers account for majority of County staff who get promoted each year.
The organizing secretary of Kenya Union of Nurses Nyandarua chapter, James Maina said the County government has agreed to provide two buses to ferry delegation to the national nurses’ week celebrations set for Migori.
