A section of nurses from Nyahururu, Nyandarua County have lauded ongoing International Nurses week citing it being an avenue to advocate and sensitize the public on immense contribution of nurses in health care promotion.
While speaking at ACK Christ the King Cathedral, Nyahururu during thanksgiving, Ms.Dorcas Njuguna who spoke on behalf of the team said the nurses’ week recognizes the immense impact nurses and midwives have on individuals and community in health promotion, disease prevention and delivery of community health care.
Ms. Njuguna also pointed out the week provides an avenue to advocate for the life and wellbeing of the nurses and midwives.
“This is the week we celebrate the nurses as well as advocating for their lives and wellbeing to ensure they have resources and support they need to provide quality health care, “noted Ms. Njuguna.
She also noted that they celebrate the week to raise awareness about challenges the facing nursing profession as they perform their duties as well as highlighting the need for strong nursing workforce.
“The International Nurses Week is a week nurses should be celebrated, supported and empowered to continue their vital role in shaping a healthier future for all,” added Ms. Njuguna.
She further noted the nurses’ week is aimed at honouring Florence Nightingale an English social reformer, who was born in May 12, 1820 and is considered as the founder of modern nursing.
Provost Ven. John Ngenye appreciated the nurses for their contribution in the society in provision of health care adding that their services cannot be trivialized for they have tremendous impart in the society.
Ven. Ngenye encouraged the nurses to take courage and continue serving the community despite the challenges they are encountering in the line of duty.
The Provost encouraged them to dedicate themselves and their services to God for protection citing that their services sometimes is risky as they interact with patients suffering from various ailments.
During the nurses’ week the nurses are carrying out various activities including acts of mercy where they will be vising institutions such as prison as they intend to celebrate climax of the week on Friday this week.
