Kisumu Governor Prof. Anyang’ Nyong’o has urged faith-based and service organisations to partner with counties in advancing social justice and expanding community outreach initiatives.
In a speech read on his behalf by his deputy, Dr. Matthew Owili, during the 22nd Kenya District Conference of Y’s Men International in Kisumu, the governor said his administration was pursuing deliberate collaborations to accelerate inclusive social and economic transformation.
The annual fellowship brought together more than 100 delegates drawn from nine counties for strategic discussions on value-driven leadership, volunteerism and structured community outreach programmes.
Nyong’o said Kisumu County recognises the critical role played by non-state actors in complementing government efforts, particularly in reaching vulnerable groups and strengthening grassroots development initiatives.
“In Kisumu, our administration is building deliberate partnerships to drive meaningful social development. We are open to collaborations with non-state actors like YMCA to augment our socio-economic activities,” he said.
He said partnerships with organisations such as the Young Men’s Christian Association (YMCA) and affiliated service clubs provide an opportunity to scale up interventions in areas including youth empowerment, mentorship, social protection and community-based support systems.
The governor noted that value-driven outreach anchored on integrity, accountability and service was essential in tackling social inequalities and fostering cohesive communities.
Delegates at the conference explored strategies to strengthen district-level programmes and align them with county and national development priorities.
Discussions also centred on expanding volunteer networks, improving coordination among clubs and enhancing impact measurement to ensure sustainable outcomes.
The event was attended by Kenya District Governor Dr. Esther Mbaabu and Area Africa President-Elect and YMCA CEO Jared Musima, alongside club presidents and other dignitaries, underscoring the growing influence of structured fellowship networks in community development across the region.
Nyong’o reaffirmed the county’s commitment to open engagement with faith-based organisations and civil society groups, saying collaborative frameworks would remain central to Kisumu’s social justice agenda.
