Oburu warns politicians against hijacking Gen Z cause

Siaya Senator Dr. Oburu Odinga has warned the political class against infiltrating the Gen Z agenda to gain political mirage.

Speaking in Bondo, where he presided over the donation of computers to schools, Dr. Oburu asked the political class to let Gen Z raise their issues and concerns without interference.

“I would want to advise the political class not to seize the agenda of Gen Zs for their own purpose. Let Gen Zs put their agenda up and let us try to solve the issues they raise without taking advantage of the moment,” he requested.

He asked the state to find amicable ways of solving problems raised by the Gen Zs without resorting to abductions and killings.

“Let us solve the problems raised by the young people without killing them. I personally cannot support loss of life and destruction of property but I support democracy,” Oburu said.

The Senator on the other hand, cautioned Gen Zs to follow the law when articulating their issues, adding that the Constitution of Kenya gives an opportunity to remove underperforming leaders every 5 years through elections.

He said that demonstrations and picketing are only a means of expressing dissatisfaction with the State and not a means for the removal of elected leaders.

“When you say occupy State house which provision of the Constitution are you using to do that?” Oburu posed as he asked the youth not to destroy the country by inciting anarchy.

“Our neighbours have experienced wars and we are not special. We have to be careful not to destroy our country through anarchy,” said.
