Otendo Primary and Junior Secondary School in South Mugirango Constituency, Kisii County, is seeking infrastructural support to improve its academic and co-curricular development following its outstanding regional soccer team performance.
The school celebrated its junior secondary girls’ soccer team’s victory in the regional finals, despite narrowly falling to Sinaga Secondary in Siaya County.
According to Chair of the school’s Board of Management (BOM), Shem Ongori, despite being a relatively new entrant in competitive sports, Otendo school has quickly risen in prominence, thanks to the dedication of the students and staff.
Ongori congratulated the girls for their significant improvement compared to last year, highlighting their achievement at the regional level.
Ongori urged the government and well-wishers to improve the school’s infrastructure, particularly the training grounds, which he deemed unsuitable for nurturing athletic talent.
As part of his support, Ongori donated sports kits to the team and pledged continued backing for the school’s sports programs.
The team’s coach, Justin Sangae, echoed Ongori’s remarks, lauding the administration and parents for their unwavering support. He expressed optimism about the team’s future prospects.
“This is only the beginning. With the right support, we can build a winning culture here,” said Sangae.
Otendo School’s promising future is predicted through improved infrastructure and consistent investment in student talent, indicating a promising future for both academics and extracurricular activities.
