Outcry over rising cases child neglect in Oyugis

Rachuonyo South Sub-County children officer Brian Saidi has raised alarm over rising cases of child neglect and abuse in Oyugis town.

The children’s officer said conflicts between parents should not leave children to suffer as he called on residents especially those living in Oyugis town and its outskirts to be vigilant and report any case of child neglect and abuse within their proximity.

“Women are abandoning their children, and others are giving birth and dumping the babies. This is alarming and horrifying,” he said.

The officer said he has noted there are rampant issues of child neglect in the town, some resulting from family misunderstandings, but warned action will be taken against such parents.

“Kindly let’s come out and stop this menace in the town,” the children officer urged the residents when he addressed the media.

He urged residents to report to the authority any child who is in trouble within their environment saying children are the future of this country and they have their rights which nobody should violate.

“All children must be protected, given the fact that they are vulnerable,” he said.

The children’s officer asked everyone to immediately report any issue of child abuse and neglect to the police or the children’s office in order to find a way to support and protect the children. He said the government is very keen on the welfare of children and such abuse and neglect should not happen.
