Over a thousand students, accompanied by their parents, have benefited immensely from the Uriri annual sensitization on the higher education funding model.
Officials from the Higher Education Loans Board (HELB), the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS), and the University Fund Board led the training to ensure all students understood the new university funding model and how to apply for the funds before joining a university usually in September.
Member of Parliament for Uriri Constituency, Mark Nyamita, while speaking during the sensitisation forum at Uriri Boys High School, said that the training will ensure students are taken step by step in understanding the new model.
Nyamita explained that through this interaction and other early interventions, guardians, students, and education stakeholders will be exposed to the new funding model, open opportunities on scholarships, loans and inter-university transfers to improve the education system.
The MP noted that it was important to train, nurture and support youths through continuous care and guidance to help them make the right career choices in life.
This is the third year in a row that Nyamita has sponsored the sensitisation process on the new education funding model to help students make the right choices in their educational career path.
On matters of national politics, Nyamita encouraged the youth to avoid violence and respect the law, adding that if anyone is not happy with President William Ruto, they should wait for the 2027 general election to make their choices.
The MP also encouraged the youths to present their issues peacefully without necessarily attacking businesses and causing chaos in the country.
