An estimated 63,619 girls in schools across Vihiga County are set to receive sanitary towels in an initiative funded by the National Government Affirmative Action Fund (NGAAF).
The initiative aims to promote menstrual hygiene and ensure that girls remain in school throughout the academic year.
Speaking during the launch, Vihiga County Woman Representative Beatrice Adagala said the sanitary towels will be distributed to all primary and junior secondary schools across the county’s sub-counties.
Adagala noted that the programme seeks to provide a safe and dignified learning environment for girls, enabling uninterrupted education.
She urged parents, teachers, and community leaders, including chiefs and village elders, to safeguard children’s well-being, especially girls, during the upcoming holiday season.
The Woman Representative also wished candidates success in their national exams and encouraged them to stay focused and disciplined as they prepare for the next stage of their education.
A total of 133,064 packets of sanitary towels will be distributed to the beneficiaries.
