The Kenya Parents Association Migori Chapter Chairperson, Julius Kiberenge, has appealed to parents to take full responsibility for their children’s safety and wellbeing during the long December holidays.
Speaking to the Kenya News Agency in Migori, Kiberenge said teachers had played their role in educating and instilling moral and academic values during the school term, and it was now the parents’ turn to guide and protect their children at home.
“Parents should ensure their daughters are protected from early pregnancies and their sons shielded from drug abuse and other harmful behaviours,” said Kiberenge.
He urged parents to keep their children busy during the two-month break to prevent idleness by involving them in farming, family businesses, and sports activities.
“Let’s work together to ensure our children are occupied and focused during this break,” he added.
Kiberenge further advised parents to monitor their children closely to ensure they do not engage in activities that could lead them into conflict with the law or jeopardize their education.
On the issue of school fees, he urged school principals to be considerate of parents struggling with payments while encouraging parents to clear outstanding balances early.
Kiberenge also appealed to the government to release capitation funds promptly to ease the financial burden on parents and ensure smooth learning once schools reopen.
His remarks come as schools close for the October–December holidays, a period he described as crucial for parental guidance and family bonding.
