Kisii Central Deputy County Commissioner (DCC) Joseph Mwangi has urged parents to prioritize their children’s well-being and protect them from drug abuse and other vices during the long holiday season.
Speaking on Tuesday after overseeing the distribution of KCSE examination papers at the container located at the County Commissioner’s offices in Kisii town, Mwangi emphasised the need for close parental guidance, especially for Kenya Junior School Education Assessment (KJSEA) students.
He cautioned that lack of supervision could expose children to harmful behaviours, leading to school dropout and social problems.
“I am urging parents to take keen interest in their children because we need them in January in Senior School. We do not want them to get lost in between,” he said.
Mwangi also appealed to students to exercise self-discipline and responsibility during the holiday to ensure a smooth return to school in January.
Regarding the ongoing KCSE examinations, the DCC reported that a total of 4,600 candidates are sitting for the exams in 44 schools across Kisii Central Sub-County.
He called on centre managers and invigilators to remain vigilant and ensure that the integrity of the national examinations is upheld throughout the exercise.
