Public transport strike called off

The Kenya Public Transport Owners Association has called off the nationwide public transport strike scheduled for Monday next week to protest burning of some vehicles involved in accidents with boda boda operators.

The association chairman, Kushian Muchiri made the announcement in Narok during a consultative meeting with local boda boda operators, saying talks have begun to resolve the conflict between the two sectors.

Muchiri urged the riders to always act responsibly during accidents by being first responders in managing the situation calmly and effectively to help save lives and property as well.

This move was welcomed by the boda boda national chairman, Kevin Mbadi saying that such acts will go a long way in preventing pilling up of tension at the accident scene.

With such co-operation, Mbadi noted that they will be able to identify rogue riders, who are out to commit criminal acts and have them dealt with in accordance with the law.

He warned the riders against taking the law into their own hands and advised them to involve police officers whenever accidents occurred, as this will help promote sanity in the sector.

The riders also benefited from services offered by the Mogo company, including free service on their motorbikes among other services during the meeting.

Narok boda boda chairman Gideon Lemayian lauded the effort put in place to resolve the matter, saying it marked a new beginning for their sector.
