Rachuonyo residents assured of adequate security during festivities

Rachuonyo South Sub-county Deputy County Commissioner (DCC), Denis Kieti, has assured residents of maximum security in this festive season.

The Deputy County Commissioner said the security agencies will be on patrol in all the areas of the sub-county and called on the residents to enjoy their Christmas and New Year festivities in peace.

He, however, warned parents against leaving their children to roam around aimlessly without guidance, saying such would expose the innocent souls to dangers such as crime, drugs and alcohol among other dangers.

The Kieti asked parents to take care of their children and guide them accordingly during the festivities to avoid engaging in illicit activities that will lead them to be in conflict with the law and endanger their future.

“Any child who is found loitering in town without reason or patronising entertainment joints will be arrested and the parent will be required to explain the circumstances,” the administrator warned, adding, “The security of the child starts at home.”

He said all parents should be vigilant on the whereabouts of their children even as the government provides and intensifies security.

The DCC was speaking on Friday during celebration to mark the 62nd Jamhuri Day

Kieti asked parents, especially in areas where there is artisanal mining, to be keen to   ensure children don’t engage in child labour but remain in school.

He said many children are becoming labourers in the mining industry, saying the government is monitoring the situation keenly and will soon take action on anybody employing children in that sector

The DCC asked the people managing goldmines to safeguard the welfare of the children by not allowing underage to take part in the mining activities.

Erick Joachim the sub-county administrator, called for closer collaboration and coordination between the county and the national government to regulate activities at the gold mines in the sub-county to protect children and benefit the community from the gold mining activities.
