Recruitment exercise to enhance national security, says IG

The Inspector General (IG) of police, Douglas Kanja has said that the recruitment of 10,000 police constables countrywide aimed at strengthening national security ahead of 2027 General election.

Speaking during an impromptu visit at the William Ole Ntimama stadium in Narok town yesterday, to monitor how the exercise went, IG Kanja affirmed that the exercise will enable the police service have enough personnel to enable adequate preparations during the electioneering period.

He expressed satisfaction at how the recruitment that he described as transparent was being carried out saying only those who qualify would be picked. “The process is a transparent one and only the best candidates will be picked to join the Service,” he added.

Additionally, the IG advised the youths to continue being law abiding citizens and avoid engaging in criminal activities as doing so might hinder them from securing jobs.

The recruitment exercise had been halted by the Employment and Labour relations court after a petition was filed.

The exercise was being conducted in 427 centres and was scheduled to take place from 8am to 5am.
