Western Regional Commissioner (RC) Irungu Macharia has led pupils, teachers and education officials in planting over 2000 assorted tree seedlings and handed over another 2000 seedlings to the local community at Chamakanga comprehensive school in Sabatia constituency, Vihiga county as the country marked this year’s mazingira day.
During the occasion, Macharia urged pupils to plant trees as part of environmental conservation.
He urged the youth to grow trees as a way of mitigating climate change and combat deforestation
The RC warned against early pregnancies in Vihiga county that experiences high cases of the vice.
Macharia said cases of early marriages and pregnancies were of concern, warning that the government will not tolerate perpetrators of the vice.
The RC encouraged the local community to supplement the government’s efforts by planting and growing trees and help achieve the government ambition of growing 15 billion trees by 2030
