Gandini Comprehensive School in Malindi Sub-county in Kilifi, is set for a major transformation after the M-Pesa Foundation launched a Sh35 million infrastructure reconstruction project at the Institution.
Patricia Ithau, a Trustee at the M-Pesa Foundation, Friday, said that the Organisation would completely renovate the remote school, by constructing an administration block, six classrooms, a science lab, a computer lab, an ablution block and a modern kitchen.
Speaking during the official launch of the project, Ms Ithau said the project was part of a wider initiative to renovate infrastructures in between 500 and 600 schools across the country in the next three years.
“We at M-Pesa Foundation, have made a commitment that we are going to renovate between 500 and 600 schools across the country in the next three years,” she told journalists before she and Malindi Member of Parliament, Amina Mnyazi, officially launched the project.
Hellen Mwaringa, the Institution’s Head Teacher, expressed joy and optimism that the new facilities would attract more learners, noting that after completion, the facility will be one of its kind in the area.
“The entire primary section will be housed in a new block extending to the perimeter fence. We are extremely grateful for the support from the M-Pesa Foundation,” she said.
Ms. Mnyazi thanked the Foundation, noting that its efforts complemented that of the National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF) in rehabilitating dilapidated schools.
“The burden of school infrastructure development is immense, and organisations like the M-Pesa Foundation, play a crucial role in bridging the funding gap. I am deeply appreciative of the reconstruction work underway at this school,” she said, and urged the Foundation to consider assisting more schools in her Constituency.
