Residents urged to exercise extra caution during ongoing heavy rains

Baringo Central Member of Parliament (MP) Joshua Kandie has urged residents to exercise extreme caution and avoid crossing swollen rivers, streams and flooded roads during the ongoing heavy rains.

Kandie made the call during a bursary distribution launch at Kabarnet Museum grounds where he noted that the area is experiencing severe impacts due to sudden landslides and flash floods.

Lately, landslides that have caused massive damage to property, blocked roads and displaced families have been reported along the escarpments of Tugen hills in Pemwai, Talai, Kasore and Tenges regions.

In Kaprogonya, Turkuo and Kuryondonin villages in Kapropita Ward the heavy downpour has also led to huge cracks in several residential buildings.

The MP said residents should follow early warnings and take all the necessary precautions to prevent loss of lives and livelihoods. “It is even safer to find a shelter in the neighbourhood during the night than crossing a flooded river and road,” advised Kandie.

The legislator noted that his office is sourcing for tree seedlings to support residents in vegetation cover.

Kandie at the same time said that he has instructed contractors doing tarmac roads within the constituency to consider setting up bridges and renovate areas they have not yet reached to ease mobility.

The MP who was accompanied by Baringo Central Senior Deputy County Commissioner Joseph Ngeno launched distribution of Bursaries worth Sh73 million targeting secondary and tertiary students from the area.
