Ruiru MP donates car wash machines to boost youth-led income-generating activities

Twenty young people from Mwihoko area in Ruiru Sub-County have received two modern car washing machines as part of an ongoing Economic Empowerment programme aimed at supporting youth-led income-generating activities.

The youths are members of Hope City Youth Group who received the donations from Ruiru Member of Parliament Simon Ng’ang’a King’ara in a ceremony held in Mwihoko Ward.

The project is part of wider efforts by the area MP to reduce youth unemployment, improve livelihoods, and keep youth away from crime and drug abuse.

King’ara commended the youth and urged them to come up with more collaborative groups as the groups would be a structure for future engagements on matters development. He promised to support their expansion by helping them secure more space for their businesses.

“We are committed to supporting our youth by providing the tools they need to succeed. Empowered young people are less likely to fall into crime, and more likely to create opportunities for others,” said King’ara.

According to Thomas Kanyi, one of the beneficiaries and a member of the group, the car wash business has already started transforming lives.

“Before this support, many of us were idle and some had started engaging in drug use. Today, we have a business that gives us daily income, and we can even accommodate more youths moving forward,” said Kanyi.

The group currently has 20 members and plans to expand its operations using the new equipment. The car wash, located in Mwihoko, is now expected to grow and offer job opportunities to other unemployed youth in the area.

He urged other youth groups in Ruiru to organize themselves and come up with viable business ideas, assuring them of support through similar empowerment programmes.

The Economic Empowerment programme continues to roll out across the constituency, with the goal of equipping youth with skills, tools, and financial support to create lasting change in their communities.
