Sabatia business owners trained on safety compliance

Business owners in Sabatia Sub-County have been urged to strictly adhere to safety standards to safeguard lives and property.

The sensitisation meeting, held at Avugwi Hall at the Sabatia Sub-County Headquarters, brought together hotel owners, bar and pub operators, supermarket proprietors, and members of various market committees. The forum was convened following a directive from the Principal Secretary for Internal Security and National Administration Dr. Raymond Omollo on enhancing self-compliance with safety regulations.

The multi-agency exercise was chaired by Deputy County Commissioner (DCC) Festus Munyao alongside other government officials and security agencies.

Addressing the participants, the DCC emphasized that the meeting was organized for their benefit, to equip them with knowledge on compliance with safety measures and national guidelines.

“This training is for your own good. Compliance with safety standards protects your businesses, your customers, and your employees,” said Munyao.

Participants were taken through key safety requirements, including proper room arrangements, clear evacuation plans, establishment of designated fire assembly points, and adherence to approved building standards.

The Fire and Rescue Team, who facilitated the training, conducted practical demonstrations on fire preparedness and response. They highlighted the importance of installing fire extinguishers of appropriate sizes and types depending on the nature of the business and demonstrated how to properly use them in case of emergencies.

Business owners were also given an opportunity to air their views and concerns. Some participants raised the need for faster emergency response during fire incidents and called for strengthened collaboration between business operators and emergency response teams.

The meeting concluded with a commitment from both government officials and business operators to work together in enhancing safety compliance across Sabatia Sub-County.
