Members of Parliament from Samburu County want the National Government Constituency development fund NG- CDF to be retained in their offices facilitate critical projects at grassroots level.
The leaders led by women representative Pauline Lengures want the national government to ensure that funds remain at the constituency offices and rejected proposals to transfer the same to the county account.
Members of Parliament emphasized that the Senate bill on the CDF must be passed by all senators to become law
The MPs, including Samburu West MP Nasuula Lesuuda, Samburu East M Lekumontare, and Mogotio MP Benson Kamuren, strongly opposed the government’s decision to transfer funds to governors.
They claimed that CDF funds have assisted poor children in their education and development activities in pastoralist communities who have been forgotten for years.
For example, MP Kamuren, raised Sh 4.5 million in fundraising, with Interior Minister CS Kipchumpa Murkomen contributing Sh 1 million, and Kenyan President William Ruto contributing Sh. 1 million, with Mp Kamuren contributing Sh 1,200 thousand.
Others include, Samburu County Governor, Mr. Lati Lelelit, Pauline Lengures, and Lekumontare Senator Ltumpesi Lelegwe each distributed Sh. 200,000 and Sh. 1,500,000 respectively, among others.
Leaders in Samburu County are urged to unite for service delivery to the community, avoid politics, and support the government for development activities.
