Schools showcase talent in music festivals

Mawego Girls School emerged the winner of the taarab songs category during this year’s Homa Bay County, Kenya, Music Festival.

Wire Mixed Secondary won class 432 music category while Agoro Sare Secondary were the winners of classes 422 and 464 music categories.

The festivals which were held in La Salle Primary School in Homa Bay town also saw Asumbi Girls winning class 412 category with the runners up being St. Marys Marindi School.

The theme of the festivals was “Enhancing creative economy through Artistic Expression for Sustainable Development”

Vice Chairperson of Kenya Music Festivals Subira Neema noted music and the arts can drive economic growth, empower creatives and contribute to sustainable development.

The items performed were traditional Kenyan music and dance as well as contemporary pieces. There was also poetry, mostly in Swahili.

The schools in the county which performed well will proceed to the regional levels to be held at Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology next month July 7th to 13th.
