Security heightened in Migori ahead of New Year celebrations

All National Administration officers  in Migori County  have been put on high security alert to ensure peace in their respective jurisdictions ahead of New Year celebrations.

County Commissioner Kisilu Mutua  asked chiefs and their assistants to boost their surveillance and round up all suspicious visitors in their areas as a step to prevent possible criminal attacks directed at their subjects during the ongoing festive season.

The directive comes in the wake of increased criminal activities  waged against  innocent members of the public in villages by armed gangs breaking into houses and homes with the intention of stealing household properties.

In an order notice to the administrators on Christmas eve, Mr. Mutua said that Migori and especially towns, markets and villages bordering Tanzania and Uganda, were exposed to an influx of illegal aliens whose intentions could be to engage in criminal acts and that the security agents must be on the lookout for such characters.

He directed the administrators to ensure that any visitor to their area is registered and his or her mission to the area is known to them.

“We don’t want to take chances with the security of everybody in this region. You have to move deep into villages and know from your subjects who is a visitor in the area, where he stays and his mission in that home,” he said.

The official called upon the residents to cooperate with the administrators and other security agents to report any suspicious-looking people to the authorities for quick action.

He also asked the administrators to advise the masses against flocking into places such as hotels, bars, supermarkets and others so as to avoid exposing themselves to risks of terrorist attacks.

The CC urged the police to continue swooping on those flouting the traffic rules in order to avoid unnecessary accidents and deaths of innocent people.

Migori, being close to the border with  neighbouring Tanzania, is viewed as strategically placed on a security risk spot owing to the porous borderline.

Meanwhile, the holiday celebratory mood was cut short in the region after a female Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) officer was discovered murdered in her matrimonial home on Christmas eve.

Lieutenant Cynthia Awuor Mboya was found dead on their matrimonial bed by her husband and her body has already been moved from their Osingo South sub-location home to the Migori County referral hospital mortuary for preservation.

Suna East  Police Commander Samuel Boit confirmed the death of the 28-year-old officer, saying that three prime suspects, including the deceased husband, have been arrested and are assisting Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) officers to unravel the cause of the death of the Army officer.
