A thrilling display of skill, grit, and sheer dominance was witnessed at Chavakali Boys High School on Thursday as Vihiga County’s rugby sevens games kicked off with fiery encounters and standout performances from both boys’ and girls’ teams.
Senende Boys emerged as the team to beat in the boys’ category after thrashing Busali Secondary 53-0 in a one-sided match that left fans buzzing.
In another nail-biting game, Nyang’ori High School narrowly edged out Kaptik Secondary with a 22-21 win, while the hosts, Chavakali High School, proved too strong for Esalwa, sealing a 34-07 victory.
Vihiga Boys added to the drama, stunning Hobunaka Secondary with a commanding 40-0 triumph.
Other results in the boys’ bracket saw Bugina outplay Magui 15-05, while Ekwanda and Gamalenga shared the spoils in a tight 14-14 draw.
Kegoye stunned Emusire 20-05, and Ebusiloli blanked Ebubayi 28-0 in another dominant performance.
In the girls’ category, Madira Girls were unstoppable, thrashing Goibei 47-0 and Tigoi 43-0 to be crowned queens of the day. Keveye Girls edged Idavaga 12-05 and later silenced Kaimosi 17-00 in a strong double performance. Kaimosi, however, bounced back with a 25-00 win over Bukulunya.
Other results saw Kisangula beat Kaptik Girls 12-05, Mudavadi Girls overpower Vokoli 26-07, and Idavaga crush Bukulunya 39-00.
The tournament was briefly disrupted by heavy rains but resumed Friday, with finals scheduled for the weekend. Fans can expect even more fireworks as the top teams battle it out for county supremacy.
