Sh2.1 billion set aside for electricity connections in Kakamega

The government has set aside Sh2.1 billion to connect 34,000 households to electricity in Kakamega County.

Principal Secretary (PS), State Department for Energy, Alex Wachira, said that out of the funds, Sh146 million will be used to connect 2,700 households to electricity in Shinyalu Constituency.

Speaking at Isukha Central Ward in Shinyalu Sub-county, Tuesday, as he launched the last mile electricity connectivity, the PS said that another Sh229 million will be spent to connect 3,800 households to electricity in Malava Constituency.

He said the process is ongoing, urging those who will be missing from the programme to be patient as the government maps-out all households to be considered.

The PS was accompanied by PS, State Department for Public Service and Human Capital Development, Dr. Jane Imbunya, Kakamega County Women Representative, Elsie Muhanda, Shinyalu Member of Parliament (MP), Fred Ikana and several Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) from the Constituency.

Mr Wachira is in Kakamega County, to launch last mile electricity connection. Yesterday the PS launched the exercise at Isukha Central Ward in Shinyalu Constituency, before going to Navakholo.

On Monday he was in Malava Constituency at Butali Chegulo Ward to launch and inspect the progress of the connections, while mapping-out households which have not been connected.
