Shabana held to goalless draw by Mara Sugar

Kisii-based Shabana FC failed to secure three points at home after being held to a goalless draw by Mara Sugar at Gusii Stadium on Wednesday.

The home side dominated the first half but failed to convert their chances into goals. Shabana’s Erick Otieno missed a clear opportunity in the 21st minute after James Mazembe delivered a precise cross from the left wing.

Another chance went begging in the 32nd minute when Derrick Otieno’s shot sailed over the bar, leaving both teams goalless at halftime.

In the second half, Shabana Head Coach Peter Okidi introduced substitutes, but their efforts could not break the deadlock. Mara Sugar also created opportunities but failed to find the net, and the match ended in a stalemate.

Speaking after the game, Okidi admitted his players did not capitalise on their chances and emphasised the need to improve their style of play ahead of their next match against KCB. He expressed optimism for the new year, noting that injured players, including Brian Michira, were recovering and expected to strengthen the squad in early 2026.

The draw leaves Shabana in 7th place with 20 points in the FKF Premier League standings.
