Siaya hub equips learners with vital tech equipment

Siaya Community Digital Hub has launched an initiative to donate computers to schools in the region, aimed at exposing students to digital skills at a tender age.

Speaking at Bondo Township Primary School, where he presided over the donation of computers, the founder of Siaya Community Digital Hub, Dr Oburu Oginga, said the initiative will help impart computer knowledge to students at an early stage.

“The world is going digital, and we would like our students to embrace technology and artificial intelligence when they are still in primary and secondary schools so that when they go to university, they don’t suffer culture shock,” Oburu said.

He revealed that although the first batch of 40 computers would benefit Bondo Township primary school and Jaramogi, Akoko and Gobei secondary schools in Bondo sub-county, other schools in the county have also been earmarked to benefit from the programme.

Dr. Oburu stated that besides the donation of computers to schools, the hub also offers opportunities to university students and teachers on digital skills like AI to keep abreast of technological advancement.

Furthermore, the digital hub will alleviate high unemployment rates by giving the students an opportunity to work for international cooperation who outsource for manpower in the digital space.

Meanwhile, Dr. Oburu, who is also the Siaya Senator, encouraged other leaders and organisations to follow in his footsteps by giving the youth a chance to learn digital skills by donating computers to schools or sponsoring them to acquire digital skills.
