Six deaths in separate accidents

Six people last night died in two separate road accidents that occurred within Makueni County.

In the first accident, four family members died on the spot while the fifth person alongside them escaped unhurt when the vehicle they were travelling in rolled several times and landed in a ditch following a front tyre burst in Utafiti area along Kibwezi-Kitui road in Kibwezi Subcounty.

Kibwezi traffic base Commander Maurice Situma while confirming the accident to KNA Sunday said among the deceased was a teacher at St. Mary Kinyambu Secondary School Ms Jackline Mwaniki (Driving) and her daughter Christine Mutheu, aged 13 years. He identified the other two relatives as Tabitha Moki (72) and 80-year-old Janet Kituku.

Situma said the teacher died while undergoing treatment at Amref Kibwezi Hospital adding “The motor vehicle involved in the accident was Toyota Fielder, Reg. No. KCV 922X that was being driven by Jackline Mwaniki who succumbed to injuries at the hospital. However, Daniel Mueti (50) escaped unhurt.”

The bodies were moved to Kibwezi Funeral Home for preservation awaiting postmortem.

In the second accident, a boda boda rider and a pillion passenger died on the spot after the motorcycle they were using collided head-on with a vehicle at Christopher Kiamba area along Nairobi-Mombasa Highway early Sunday.

Mukaa Subcounty Police Commander Abduba Hussein confirmed the accident saying the vehicle registration number KCU 756C Scania belonging to Exotic SACCO was being driven by Joseph Ngari and was headed to Mombasa when it collided with a Sonlik motorcycle coming from the opposite direction.

“The wreckage of the motorcycle and the partly damaged vehicle were removed to Sultan Hamud Police Station for inspection,” said Hussein while confirming the accident to KNA.

Hussein disclosed that the bodies were taken to Sultan Hamud Level 4 Hospital mortuary for preservation awaiting autopsy.
