State allocates Sh 424 million for dualling of HomaBay town

The national government has allocated 424 million for the construction a five-kilometre dual carriage highway across Homa-Bay town.

Homa Bay County Commissioner Moses Lilan said that the project was expected to decongest traffic and ensure smooth movement of people and goods.

He said the construction being undertaken by the Kenya National Highways Authority (KenHA) was expected to run for a period of 18 months.

The five kilometre stretch will run from Junction Kodoyo to Homa Bay town central business district (CBD) and to Got-Rabuor trading centre.

Lilan said that the new development will ensure that traffic jams frequently witnessed during rush hours in the morning and evenings will be a thing of the past.

He said the contractor who was awarded the tender was under firm instructions to deliver quality work and hand over the project to the government by the end of September next year.

Speaking to the press in office in Homa-bay town today, Lilan who chairs of the National government development Committee in the County said that the project was going to transform the local economy.

He said upon the completion of the project, road accidents involving motorists and pedestrians will be curbed since there will be special pedestrian walkways.

Mr. Lillan called on the business community whose activities may be affected by the ongoing construction to cooperate with the contractor and find temporary measures to minimize disruptions of their businesses.
