Police in Angata Barikoi, Narok County, recovered eleven heads of stolen cattle early Monday morning after a dramatic pursuit that ended near the Miti Mingi Bridge.
According to a police report, the incident happened around 2:30 a.m. yesterday when a local resident, David Moritoi of Enkoprian, reported that his livestock had been stolen.
Officers from Ang’ata Barrikoi Police Station and Enkoprian Police Post, led by the Deputy Officer Commanding Station (OCS), immediately launched a manhunt alongside the cattle owner and the area Assistant Chief.
The team tracked the rustlers’ footprints under the cover of darkness and caught up with them near Miti Mingi Bridge. “The officers opened fire, forcing the rustlers to flee and abandon the stolen livestock,” read the police report.
All eleven cattle were safely recovered and returned to their rightful owner. Police have since heightened security patrols in the area in response to a rising number of cattle rustling incidents reported in recent days.
Authorities have also urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities to curb further livestock theft that has terrorized the area for a while.
