Stop politicizing health matters, governor warns

Bungoma Governor Kenneth Lusaka has cautioned human rights activists against politicizing health matters in the County.

Speaking while inaugurating the County Hospital Boards at the County Headquarters Thursday, Lusaka said that Health was a critical ministry that should not be interfered with as it deals with lives.

“It is wrong to over-politicize the health docket since it deals with lives.  Governance in health facilities is key to its success and as such the board plays an integral part in the growth of the ministry,” he observed.

He further urged the board to discharge their mandate through oversight to enhance the quality of healthcare service provision.

“Maintaining and improving the quality and safety of patients in health facilities falls under clinical governance that must be enhanced by you, the board,” he reiterated. “We expect that you serve us with a lot of dedication,” he challenged.

As per the Bungoma Health Act 2019, the inaugurated board will serve on a three-year contract renewable once on performance.
