Student arrested over robbery incidents in Nyakach to sit KCSE exams in custody

A Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) candidate will write exams in police custody after he was arrested in connection with theft incidents in Nyakach Sub County, Kisumu County.

The 20-year-old Form Four student at Ramula Mixed Day Secondary School was found in possession of an assortment of suspected stolen property believed to be proceeds from crime.

The suspect, an orphan, was residing with a relative in Soko Kahawa village, South Nyakach Location, Nyakach Sub County.

He was arrested at the school premises at about 9.00 am on Monday morning following a tip off from a member of the public.

Upon interrogation by security officers, the boy confessed taking part in a string of theft incidents and house break-ins.

He revealed the names of his accomplices leading to the arrest of another male suspect identified as Japheth Ndege.

While acting on technical intelligence, police raided the suspects’ hideouts and recovered other items including laptops, tablets, a music system and cooking gas.

The officers also recovered a fake pistol believed to be used in committing criminal activities in the area.

Authorities say that the suspects could be part of a criminal syndicate behind a series of robberies witnessed in the area.

The recovered property of an unknown value is believed to have been stolen from Kabete Primary School, Kabete AIC Church, and business premises in the neighbouring Kajimbo Sub location, Nyabondo area that have borne the brunt of crime in recent weeks.

Officers also recovered several crude weapons, including a crowbar and a panga, which were all secured as exhibits.

The candidate is expected to proceed doing his KCSE exams while in custody at the Nyakach Deputy County Commissioners’ headquarters while the investigation continues.
