A total of 25,924 applicants in Turkana County had applied for Climateworx slots against the allocated 1,028 slots.
Modeled along the kazi mtaani program, the program will see supervisors take home Sh580 for each day they worked and Sh500 for the other junior workers to be engaged in menial jobs.
Speaking during a county implementation committee meeting on the Climateworx program, County Commissioner Julius Kavita who is also the chairperson of the committee said the county has been allocated 35 supervisor slots.
In the meeting to deliberate on the recruitment and selection process for the Climateworx Program, Kavita emphasized the Committee’s role in ensuring a fair and transparent selection process.
He presented the number of applicants and the distribution of available slots across the six constituencies.
It was resolved that the recruitment will be conducted at the sub-county level, with each Deputy County Commissioner (DCC) tasked with compiling a list of selected workers per ward and identifying priority activities to be implemented in the informal settlements within their respective jurisdictions.
With regards to constituency worker’s allocation Constituency, number of applicants slots allocated, Turkana Central had 11,424 applicants against 300 allocated slots, Turkana North 3,294 applicants against 170 available slots.
Turkana East had 2,399 applicants against 90 allocated slots while Turkana South had 2,919 applying for the jobs yet 150 were available.
Turkana West was allocated 198 slots yet 2,452 had applied. In Loima 3,435 placed their applicants for the 120 slots.
Supervisor Allocation Turkana County was allocated 35 supervisors.
The Committee agreed that supervisor distribution would be based on the number of wards per constituency and the volume of workers. DCCs will be responsible for nominating supervisors from each ward.
In terms of supervisors for the constituencies Turkana Central got eight slots, Turkana North six, Turkana East three, Turkana South six, Turkana West eight and Loima sub county four.
