Turkana Tourism, Cultural Festival ‘Tobong’u Lore’ to be held in December

The tentative dates for this year’s edition of the Turkana Tourism and Cultural Festival, popularly known as ‘Tobong’u Lore’, has been set for December 1 to 4, 2025.

The announcement was made by the festival’s planning committee chaired by the County Executive for Trade, Tourism, Youth and Gender Affairs, Wangiros James, who revealed that this year’s theme will be “Cradle of Humanity: Home of Culture — A Journey Through Turkana.”

Known for its rich Ateker cultural display, local and international exhibitions, trade showcases, and side meetings on cross-border peace and diplomacy, this will be the ninth edition since the festival’s inception in 2015.

With the announcement, all departments of the County Government and partners are expected to accelerate activities and support to contribute to the success of the event.

The festival, which has since become part of Kenya’s national tourism and cultural events calendar, is expected to draw members of the Ateker communities from Kenya, Uganda, South Sudan, and Ethiopia, alongside visitors from across the region and beyond.

Director of Culture Boniface Korobe confirmed that this year’s theme will maintain its traditional style of music and dance, cultural events, sports, speeches from leaders and invited guests and Miss Tourism Beauty Pageant.

New events and activities will also be unveiled.
