The Uasin Gishu county government has entered into an MoU with Education Empowerment for Rural and Urban Slum Initiative (EERUi) to implement capacity-building programs and establish child care centres of excellence in the area.
This move paves the way for the training of 1,390 ECDE teachers in 684 learning centres across the county.
The County Executive for Education Eng. Lucy Ng’endo said the MoU aims to develop and implement comprehensive training and capacity-building programs for ECDE teachers and child care providers.
“This collaboration with EERUi will ensure that children in our learning centres have access to health initiatives and that public spaces including markets are provided with child care centres of excellence to serve as benchmarks for quality education and child care services,” she said.
In his remarks, the Chief Officer for Education, Eunice Suter, noted that the department of education will benefit greatly as it rolls out the digitization of learning in ECDE centres and establishes competitive centres of excellence to meet the demand for Competency-Based Education.
“This is in line with governor Dr. Jonathan Bii’s vision of implementing e-learning in all ECDE centres,” she added.
On his part, Steve Muasya, Program Manager at EERUi, said the partnership will implement comprehensive capacity-building programs to enhance the quality of childcare services, strengthen entrepreneurial skills for sustainable and profitable child care business models, and equip providers with tools to create safe, nurturing and a stimulating environments for children.
