Uasin Gishu youths embark on a cleanup drive

A section of youths from Uasin Gishu County have embarked on a clean-up exercise in the region to promote environmental conservation.

The clean-up drive that began at Kapsoya (Ainabkoi sub-county) and Ziwa (Soy sub-county) centres has now covered Eldoret City and is expected to be carried out across the county.

Today, the volunteers cleaned Eldoret city central business district and the Eldoret Arboretum.

Speaking during the exercise, Uasin Gishu Chief Officer for Environment, Energy, and Natural Resources, Mark Some, who spearheaded the campaign, highlighted that the drive aligns with the County administration’s promise to create a clean, safe, and healthy environment.

“We are proud to see our youth stepping up. We will continue to support such programs and remain focused on empowering youth-led activities. With their energy and commitment, we believe Eldoret can rival the cleanest cities in East Africa,” Some said.

Apart from being just a clean-up exercise, the event served as a platform for empowerment and while at the Arboretum, youths engaged in team-building sessions designed to foster leadership, innovation and unity.

On her part, County Chief Officer for Youth and Sports, Victorine Kapkiai, commended the young participants, emphasizing that youth engagement must go beyond sports and extend into agriculture, entrepreneurship and other transformative programmes.

“Beyond sports, young people should also engage in agriculture and other sectors that contribute to personal and community growth,” Kapkiai said.

The County Government officials unanimously reiterated their dedication to nurturing youth leadership through programs that promote responsible behaviors, environmental awareness, and sustainable development.
