Vihiga County launches governor residences

The Vihiga County Governor, Dr Wilber Otichillo, officially opened the residence of both the Governor and the Deputy Governor on Friday, emphasising the importance of the facilities in facilitating efficient service delivery to the residents of Vihiga.

During the opening ceremony, Governor Otichillo reiterated that the residences were not personal properties but rather assets belonging to the county, meant to serve all future occupants.

“This is not my house but the Governor’s house. Even those who will come after me will surely live here,” Governor Otichillo affirmed.

Deputy County Governor Wilberforce Kitiezo expressed his gratitude to the County Executive and County Assembly for their support in the realisation of the official residences.

County Assembly speaker Christopher Omulele reassured the residents of Vihiga that all necessary legal procedures were adhered to during the procurement of the land and construction of the residences.

Vihiga County Commissioner Mr Peter Maina, who also attended the event, assured the governor and the residents of the area of the security of the premises, highlighting the national government’s commitment to safeguarding official government residences.

“We are mandated by the national government to provide security to official residences of government officials. We are going to man these two premises day and night to ensure security exits,” County Commissioner Maina stated.

The event was graced by a host of dignitaries, including County Executive Committee Members, Members of the County Assembly, and other notable personalities.

The opening of the official residences marked a significant milestone for Vihiga County and underscored the commitment of the county leadership to enhancing service delivery and governance for the benefit of the residents.
