Vihiga County successfully hosted its annual school’s championship at Chavakali High School, bringing together learners from across the region to compete in various sporting disciplines.
The event attracted strong participation from schools drawn from the five sub-counties of Sabatia, Luanda, Vihiga, Emuhaya, and Hamisi. Pupils showcased their talents in athletics, basketball, rugby, and gymnastics, highlighting both skill and sportsmanship.
Speaking during the event, Kenya Primary Schools and Junior Schools Association County Secretary Sarah Muhonja said the championship plays a key role in promoting physical fitness, nurturing talent, and keeping learners actively engaged.
She noted that such competitions provide an important platform for pupils to interact, build teamwork, and identify their strengths in sports. Muhonja added that the exposure also helps in preparing learners to compete at higher levels, including regional and national competitions.
“We are encouraged by the level of talent displayed, especially in gymnastics and athletics. Vihiga has great potential to excel and qualify for national championships,” she said.
Vihiga County Director of Education Joyce Chesang lauded the participants for their dedication and discipline throughout the competition. She urged learners to remain focused, work hard, and aim for excellence in their sporting careers.
Chesang further encouraged the pupils to uphold teamwork and unity as they strive to represent the county at higher levels.
“Let us win as Vihiga,” she said.
